To Make a Beginning
"To make an end is to make a beginning..." T.S. Eliot
After traveling and living life on the road for 15 months -
almost three times longer than we ever planned -
we have made an end,
we have made a beginning.
............................................................................
This spring we said goodbye to our home on wheels,
and put our belongings & business into an even smaller box to travel west.
Inexplicably, our half-day visit to Santa Fe a year ago stayed with us,
and so we took the 1200 mile journey to return -
saying goodbye to the beauty of family and the Gulf Coast,
traveling through the bayous of Louisiana,
and the vastness that is Texas,
to enter the Land of Enchantment - New Mexico.
We arrived in the City Different to be welcomed
with a warmth unlike any we've encountered.
After many miles and many months,
we've found a home on the mesa, in a place called delight,
to spend a season surrounded by juniper and cacti,
with skies full of light and ever-changing clouds.
A place of quiet and beauty
where we can continue to enjoy time spent together,
to revel in the wonders of our world,
to photograph the antique & vintage collection we gathered on our journey,
and to explore a place and culture at once unfamiliar and enchanting.
In the coming months,
I hope to frame the scores of photos with words
and to share those here.
In the meantime, we found that Dr. Seuss voiced our current sentiments best when he said,
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
